Project 3: Survival Kit

Image
Please post a response to Project 3: Covid-19 Survival Kit 1. This being our first online project, how did our new format change your experience of working in this class?  It was definitely different. I would say that it was harder. Since you did not have the face- to face, in person assistance if you needed it. Though having the share- the- screen tool was very helpful. I was able to talk to someone in the class to get help and we were able to share our screen and get the feedback/ help on zoom. This type of instruction is not ideal, but so far this project was not too hard for me to complete.  2. How did you challenge yourself creatively, conceptually and/or technically  in the making of this piece? I think technically this was a challenge for me. Even though we had the tutorials and your assistance through zoom if we needed it, it did feel like I taught myself the program through trail and error. I did have help along the way but this was a bit of a cha...

Project 2 Response

In what way did you change your process to make a piece that was site specific? - I knew I wanted to do something with body positivity. So my sketch with easier for me to make however, it was putting in the time in effort to really think where this piece should be located. I had several ideas on where to put this piece . First I thought maybe I should put it on a mirror at the gym near my home. But then I had to think about who would be seeing it at my home gym. And since this is a message I want to continue to emphasize and advocate, maybe that would not be the right place. I thought about the Tyler bathroom mirror, or a Tyler stall, but what would that say about being in an art school and self love. Obviously self - love and acceptance of yourself is important concept to think about, but I didn't think that matched yet. When I thought about one of the gyms on campus, I thought this would better emphasize my idea. Since many students and people can...

Blog 4 Video Response

I thought the videos were very interesting. It was interesting to see how the camera and movement of the camera affects the way the scene is interpreted. I thought that it was smart to have some kind of underlying motion in each frame like the nature aspects. Even though the main subject may be moving, to have weather incorporated like rain, wind, fire, snow, is something I would not have even thought about. It was cool how the editing space and time video switched to different worlds so quickly. It is a different way to think about how you want viewers to interpret/ see things in your frame. The video also explained how the man really changed parts of editing animation. The how to structure a video essay also explained some valid points. Rather than connecting scenes, its connecting thoughts. I never really thought about it, but they gave the example that when you have two storylines, when one reaches its peak point, you then switch to the other story till that reaches it peak poi...

Project Proposal

Image
Project 2: Vinyl Intervention Project 2: Vinyl Intervention Things to consider: ●  IMAGE : The image you use will need to be turned into outlines, much like a stencil. Keep that in mind as you simplify your image down to a graphic. What information do you need to keep? What information is unimportant? Consider positive and negative space. Keep in mind that you will have to weed your vinyl (remove all negative space by hand). Very small pieces, under an ⅛ inch, may be very difficult to remove or may not cut clearly. ●  TEXT : Text is vector-based and can be used in this project, but before you add text, consider whether or not your message can be clear with just an image. ●  COLOR : Your decals can be one of 30+ colors, but only one color. Visit the Digital Fabrication Studio in the basement to see what colors are available. You will choose a color when you drop off your files. ●  LOCATIONLOCATIONLOCAT...

Vandals or Visionaries Article Response

In your response please make your opinion clear, if you do not have opinion discuss why not. The article addressed interesting points about street art and the rights vs. wrongs about how people perceive this type of art. In my opinion, I always found the occasional street art refreshing and interesting to look at. Of course, there are times when street art expresses vulgar or inappropriate language references. In those cases, I would not say I would encourage that kind of art making, however, someone must of wrote it/expressed themselves for a legitimate reason. There is also the discussion about how art, especially street art, makes use of the space and the street it is located on. One part of the article stated that "if a work of street art is removed from its urban setting and preserved in a museum, the meaning of the work is diminished, devoid of its distinctive meaning” (Willard, 99) I thought that concept was really interesting because that is very true. If art was made o...

Photoshop Project 1

Image
How do you feel about the overall outcome of this piece in relation to your art making process? The overall product is something I should be proud of because I was able to actually complete a project using Photoshop, but its definitely still a work in progress. The overall art making process and a computer is still not my favorite. So I cannot say working on this piece was my favorite, however, I managed to complete it to the best of my abilities. 2. In what way did you integrate your personal art practice into this project?  I put one piece of my art on the white door in my composition. I'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate  my practice of personal art into this kind of digital art. I think my ways of thinking of art was probably incorporated  into this first project. I knew what I was comfortable with, so I did my best to complete  what I knew.  3. How did you challenge yourself creatively, conceptually an...

Project 1 Sketches/ Brainstorm

Image
Who are you and how does your artistic practice reflect that identity?  I am very well- rounded when it comes to different things in life. My personality is very complex. I don't think one one could sum it up except for complex (while I'm sure other could say the same too). My artistic practice and style is still developing. However, I do think my identity comes through a little in my artwork. I tend to do things that are important to me and that I can relate to.  How does your presence on social media reflect that identity? I don't have a really big presence on social media. I think that does reflect parts of my identity. I tend to be shy in public and quieter at first. While I use social media apps, I do not actively participate with posting everyday or very often. I use it to check certain things . But I do not strive to have to most likes or followers on Instagram. This part of me is definitely reflected in my identity. I do like the ways soc...

American Artist

Black and Blue: American Artist Is Redefining How We Think About Race in the Digital Age Written by: Alex Greenberger My comment: This article was different but very interesting. Our generation is definitely having this change and increasing activism shown with digital art. Since technology is so present in today's society, I think people are taking advantage of its resources by creating works of art to engage with controversial issues. I thought it was interesting how the person changed their name to American Artist. It brings up the conversation with what that word means and how it presents their identity. Artist seems very knowledgeable about digital resources and how they can use that to present a message in their art. While I am not very advanced with digital art or technology, I can definitely see how it can play an important role in society since this kind of art is becoming more popular and present in every day life.

Collections Project

Image
Is there something physical you collect? I don't physically collect anything right now. But when I was younger, I did collect seashells on the beach. What digital collections do you have? The only digital collections I have are photographs from my life. I have them stored on my phone and laptop. How does the digital world affect the way we collect? The digital world affects the way we collect things because it is a different way of keep something stored. Instead of physically collecting something like in  your room or home, the technology we have today allows us to save almost any digital information.
